Why Join Royal Ark Mariners?

To many Masons, even Mark Master Masons who are not Ark Mariners, the Royal Ark Mariner degree can seem to be just a charming, little degree about Noah and the Flood whose members wear rainbow coloured aprons and has often been dismissed as being of very little ritual significance. Those who are ‘elevated’ to become a Royal Ark Mariner, however, soon realise that the degree is simple and beautiful, rather than superficial or trivial.

The fundamental nature of the Royal Ark Mariner degree is that it further develops the suggestion of the making of a new beginning or the adoption of a new outlook on life.

Like both Craft and Mark, the Ark Mariner degree has reference to that great Masonic allegory of Building. However, in this degree, the issue is not how to build something, but rather the ceremony celebrates a man who did so, in this case the Patriarch Noah in his construction of the Ark. It teaches the futility of relying on any human endeavour or expedience to escape divine justice without the direct instructions of the Almighty. Obedience to the Deity is not to be avoided, but to be embraced.

It further develops the suggestion of the making of a new beginning or the adoption of a new outlook on life. It teaches the futility of relying on any human endeavour or expedience to escape divine justice

How to Join Royal Ark Masonry

All Brethren are eligible to join the Royal Ark Mariner Degree as soon as they become Mark Master Masons and there is no prerequisite to having attained the chair in the Craft or the Mark Degree before becoming a Worshipful Commander in the RAM Degree. Having decided to join Royal Ark Masonry you will need a Proposer and Seconder from the Lodge you wish to join. Your Proposer or Seconder can obtain an application form from the Lodge Scribe or you can download one directly from the website.

You will be balloted for in open Lodge in the same way as in the Mark. This would preferably be done at the meeting before your Elevation, although it is permitted for the ballot to be taken at the meeting immediately prior to your Elevation ceremony. The ballot proving in your favour the Elevation ceremony can proceed.

For more information please contact the Provincial Grand Scribe by going to the Contact Us page or download our leaflet which contains a list of the Lodges in the Province with the contact details of each Lodge Scribe.
